Welcome

Hello, I’m Alyssa Held (she/her) a registered social worker and practicing psychotherapist at Midtown Toronto Therapy. Growing up, whenever someone asked what I wanted to do with my life, my answer was always the same: “I just want to help people!” And that remains true to this day.

I have a natural love of listening to people and learning how their experiences and relationships have shaped their sense of self. It’s a privilege to be entrusted with the thoughts, emotions and vulnerabilities of others and I feel personally rewarded by this profession every single day.

In my career, I’ve been fortunate to work with a variety of populations including elderly patients at Toronto’s Baycrest hospital and young families at SickKids. I’m passionate about mental health and helping people of all ages and backgrounds lead more peaceful and happy lives.

My Approach

No two clients are the same and neither is my approach to working with them. I draw on a variety of therapeutic techniques, including elements of CBT and talk therapy, to create a plan of care that is responsive and uniquely tailored to my clients’ needs. I’m also trained in attachment theory, trauma-informed therapy, narrative therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Individuals who come to see me are often experiencing symptoms of anxiety, stress, depression, low self-esteem or low mood. I also work with people who are struggling with major life transitions, including the arrival of a new baby, the dissolution of a relationship or the loss of a loved one.

I know that life has its ups and downs but you don’t have to face it alone. I hope we can work together on your therapy journey.
